Phantasm

A product of fantasy

Shocked spectors, ethereal landscapes and lost souls, waking dreams, ghosts, arms, transitions - a storyline that got mixed up and is playing out of order. Who is it? I don't know. Wait, is it me in this dream? Never mind I lost my place again. Through their transitional evolutions, these ghostly wanderers drift into an aura-like field of color. The figures are both unsettling and peaceful. Is there a meaning behind the perceptions that worry us?

Each painting operates as a portrait of an individual, I clear my mind and let the image emerge without sketching or any pre-planning other than color and size. My process begins with thin washes of paint, eventually layering more opaque paint with details as the figure materializes. I also work with an airbrush to add more clarity and form.

After the painting is finished I cut the paper into an undulating form that will layer well with another piece, echoing the shapes within my paintings. When I begin a new painting I consider color continuity between the figures so that I can create a flow within the installation.
